Patrieck Bonnet

Music Artist & Dispokinetician

About

Jazz saxophonist Patrieck Bonnet captivates the audience with his warm tone and timbre. Having studied in the Netherlands and Germany, he has taken many steps as a music artist.

He is a wilful, versatile saxophonist and clarinettist who is at home in various genres of music. He has performed with orchestras such as the Dutch Jazz Collective, Peter Beets & New Jazz Orchestra, Koninklijke Marinierskapel, Orkest van de Koninklijke Marechaussee and the Nederlands Douane Orkest.

In 2019, his role as bandleader began with the Patrieck Bonnet Quintet. Gradually in this project, Patrieck brings out his own voice as a soloist, arranger and composer.

In 2021, he released his debut album “Hommage”, a tribute to his grandfather, an important composer of music for concert band; Karel van Dijck, after which the band held a very memorable release tour.

Patrieck is currently working on the next album for his quintet.

Besides giving concerts, Patrieck is passionate about helping fellow musicians through DispoKinesis.

Dispokinesis is a posture and movement teaching specifically aimed at musicians, developed by G.O. van der Klashorst. Dispokinesis can be used both preventively, and for rehabilitation of playing injuries.

Let’s stay in touch!

Patrieck Bonnet Quintet

In 2019, Patrieck started working as a bandleader and formed his own group. This project became one of his most important musical statements, this project shows what Patrieck stands for musically.

Patrieck’s playing is deeply rooted in mainstream jazz, but also incorporates the timbre (including on clarinet) from classical. His strong sense of elocution and melody are supported by highly experienced musicians who ensure that everyone on stage sparkles and is free to express themselves in sound. The ambition is to do this in as many places as possible.

A long-held desire of Patrieck was to get more in touch with his grandfather, composer Karel van Dijck (1927-1995). So in August 2021, he released his debut album, “Homage,” with the Zennez label. “Homage” is an ode to the composer and his grandfather Karel van Dijck. Patrieck’s arranged three suites by Van Dijck and added two compositions of his own.

“Hommage” can be thought of as a “Coming of Age story” in which Van Dijck’s originally classical suites are performed with respect for the original, but later subtly transition into Jazz. Gradually while listening to Patrieck’s debut album, his own sound emerges more and more. “Homage To One Who Has Flown Away” is a compelling story, with playful but also melancholic elements, that is carried out with care.

The album release was held at the Amersfoort Jazz Festival on August 21, 2021.

Dispokinesis

Posture – Movement – Breath – Freedom Of Expression

The body is the primary instrument

G.O. van de Klashorst

Dispokinesis is a posture & movement therapy especially developed for musicians by G.O. van de Klashorst. The term ‘dispokinesis’ is derived from the Latin word ‘disponere’, meaning ‘to have at one’s disposal’, and the Greek word ‘kinesis’, meaning ‘movement’.

Dispokinesis helps to (re)discover your personal and original sense of posture and movement, allowing you to access an uninhibited physical and mental state to be free of expression.

In other words; we find our disposition, to be disposed.

Indications for Dispokinesis are:

  • Problems/pain with playing in sitting or standing for a while.
  • Pain after practising your instrument. (shoulder, back, wrists, elbows)
  • Nerve Inflammation
  • Only being able to play after long warm up.
  • Embouchure problems
  • Air support problems
  • Tone problems
  • Trouble with playing dynamics; unable to blow softly or playing forte is enduring.
  • Problems with fast passages
  • Overload due to performance drive and over ambition.
  • One day everything works smoothly on your instrument/voice, the other day nothing works.
  • Stage fright
  • Music doesn’t give joy anymore
  • Handling pressure as a performing musician

Dispokinesis can be of great value for the rising as well for the established performing artist.

Special attention is given to the musician’s individual mental & physical situation and the ergonomics of their instrument.

What to expect in a first lesson/session of Dispokinesis:

The musician’s matters are being explored during an preliminary interview, with subjects such as playing habits, practice habits, views on practicing, general working conditions, history of injuries, career development.

After this a posture and movement analysis of the musician in question will be made with and without the instrument to explore the musicians needs.

Next if necessary, it is about guiding the musician in (re)discovering his/her own disposition by means of dispo exercises and practical work with the instrument.

There’s no end to learning.
